VIC Track and Field Championships

It was a blustery but otherwise nice day for the Virginia Independent Conference Track and Field Championship at Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg.

Ninth-seeded Lozie Goolsby surprised the high jumpers by clearing 5 feet and claiming a fourth-place finish, which is impressive for somebody so young. He just began high jumping a couple of weeks ago. If there was an award for best young athlete, he would have won it, hands down.

Fishburne Track Competes at Stonewall Jackson Meet & VIC Championship Schedule

Glen Franklin won the long jump at 19’4”, which is over two feet off his best jump this year. He had to borrow Coach McManus’s shoes, which didn’t help!

Also, we’re making some tweaks and other adjustments to his technique, and that takes some time to get used to.

Lozie Goolsby was fourth in his first-ever high school-level high jump, clearing 4’, 10”. (First place was 5’4”)

Lacrosse wins against Stuart Hall 10-3

Fishburne secured victory over Stuart Hall with the offensive power of midfielders Estes (5 goals) and Burkhard (2 goals). Tinney led the defense and they neutralized the offense of Stuart Hall. Peters and Nastro split time
in goal and both played solid. Stuart Hall came to play and it wasn’t until 3 minutes left in the game that the win was certain. It was a very physical game, but the Caissons kept their composure to ensure Fishburne would be victorious.

Fishburne PG Hoops wins a good one against NIA Prep

On a night when offense stole the show, it was defense that won the game. The Fishburne Military School post-graduate basketball team put up 55 points in an electrifying first-half, but it was the commitment to team defense that allowed the Caissons to defeat nationally acclaimed NIA Prep of Newark, N.J. on Thursday afternoon 91-72.

Wrestlers Take to the Mats – First Two Matches

There are a lot of names not mentioned here but every wrestler that went and worked hard all day did a great job and represented FMS with pride like a true team. We still have a long way to go but are on the right road with a very young bunch of men that are working hard every day in practice.

Come out this week and Cheer on the Wrestling Caissons as they will take on MMA at home at 5pm on Wednesday, the 16th of December. It should be a very good and exciting match as there will be some outstanding match ups on the mat that day.

Fishburne Swimmers Make a Splash Against MMA

Swimming against Massanutten is always exciting and this match was no different. We were neck and neck in the beginning of the match but then Massanutten pulled ahead in the 50 free and the 100 Free. Going in to the second half of the meet Massanutten was up by 10 points. But then Fishburne stepped it up. In the 100 Back (usually our worst event) Cochran got first place by nearly half a pool and Burkard came in second (after a Massanutten swimmer DQ’ed).

Caissons Varsity Hoops Come Up Short Against FUMA

The Caisson Classic Championship is heading back to Fluvanna after Fork Union Military Academy downed Fishburne 68-41 in the title game of the annual tournament played Monday afternoon. The Blue Devils overcame a slow start and a gritty effort from a young Fishburne team to reclaim the tournament championship in a game that was very competitive for the first 20 minutes.

In the News: Staunton’s News Leader Covers Veteran’s Day at FMS

“A mass majority of the students are extremely patriotic,” said Tom Tattersall, 17, a Fishburne senior. “It’s a very solemn day for (the) mass majority of the kids in the corps.”

The joint Veterans Day and Founders Day ceremony was moved indoors because of rain Wednesday. But that didn’t detract from the intensity and focus of the students as the band performed — cadets presented arms, listened to speakers, moved in unison, small groups and as individuals — always sharply and with purpose.
